As a part of the activities related to building better industry interface, the students of MBA Program at Millennium School of Business, Bangalore got an opportunity to participate in the program on Big Data and HR Analytics, which was held at MSOB, Bangalore Campus on 22nd Feb. 2014.
The key speaker for this program was Mr. Sebi Chacko – Chief Human Resource Officer from Strides, the participants included few members from the Corporates and students of MSOB, Bangalore.
The program on big data analytics had given an immense exposure to all of us. It has given an opportunity to know how an HR department in an organization manages the HR data inflows, we learnt how we can use the technology while short listing the candidates by using their profiles or resumes. Meanwhile the trainer has explained about the Spire technology software and demonstrated few features of the software.
In the session the trainer explained that how the data is stored in huge in numbers. It will be difficult to search and select the right candidate, without using the software programs. They also showed is easy to select a particular candidate for the role. It is efficient and cost effective by using the key words as per their requirements the option provided by the software, it will search and fetch the candidates list from various job portals. Among the list we can short list the candidates for our requirements.
BIG DATA: Big data is used to describe a massive volume of both structured and unstructured data that is so large that it's difficult to process using traditional database and software techniques.
HR ANALYTICS: Human resource analytics is an area in the field of analytics that refers to applying analytic processes to the human resource department of an organization in the hope of improving employee performance and therefore getting a better return on investment. HR analytics does not just deal with gathering data on employee efficiency. Instead, it aims to provide insight into each process by gathering data and then using it to make relevant decisions about how to improve these processes.
This particular session had helped us being the students of Management / MBA Program to understand the different ways of analyzing or short listing the candidates profiles and to know the current technological advancement in talent search used by the Industry.

On 25th Nov 2013, the students of 1st and 2nd year MBA students from Millennium School of Business, Bangalore were taken for a industrial visit to Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) established in 1916, located at Rajaji Nagar, Bangalore, Karnataka. It is a company owned by Government of Karnataka. In the early 20th century, the Mysore Kingdom in India was one of the largest producers of sandalwood in the world. It was also one of the major exporters of the wood, most of which was exported to Europe. They Produce Mysore Sandal Soaps. Personal Care, Perfumes Cosmetics & Detergents
They gave a presentation regarding the industry how it was started, process of making Soap and Detergent step by step and their uniqueness in the field of Soaps and Detergents. They explained in the video how they have updated the technology in making a better soap and useful for the customers. The students got to know its uniqueness and its brand all around the world. They saw how the labourers are working hard to make these soaps despite the hurdles they face.
Then students were taken to the Packing section of Mysore sandal soap where all the machines related to the packing and the workers are placing each and every intermediate product on the machine which then goes for complete packing by collecting the soap and then putting a cover on the soap with the Logo and Brand name placed. They have 3-4 more sections such as production, manufacturing sections, even though we had limited access to the various department, it was a learning experience for all our students.

On 30th October 2013, we had a guest lecture with Mr. Joshi Paul Veliyath, VP & Circle Head from HDFC bank.
Our College Director Mr. Prakash welcomed Mr. Joshi with a bouquet and Ms. Pragati introduced him to us by going through his profile that includes his educational qualification, work experience, gradual development in his career as a regional manager, national and international publications etc. Mr. Joshi started his lecture with what is banking, types of banking in particular retail banking. He explained the process where retail banking functions in real life situations.
Mr. Joshi briefed about the various career opportunities in finance and banking domain, he also dealt about credit and debit card flaws with his real life examples.
He showed us motivational and inspirational videos such as Bhag Milka Bhaag trailer that says never give up in any kind of situation. Similarly he showed some more video clips that are inspiring and also quotes in each and every slide. Then he explained how to prepare for competitive exam and interview by giving HDFC bank as an example. Finally Director presented a memento. Such guest Lectures certainly help us in knowing what the industry expects from the MBA Graduate and how to prepare for the future.
